Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) are disproportionately affected by HIV, facing heightened vulnerabilities to HIV that include social, economic, and structural barriers. These factors not only exacerbate gender inequalities and increase risks of infection, but also hinder access to essential sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services. In 2022, 75 per cent of new HIV infections among 10–19-year-olds in sub-Saharan Africa were among AGYW — underscoring the critical need for targeted, comprehensive interventions for this population.

Programmatic evidence clearly shows that effective services for AGYW must consider the multisectoral nature of risk of HIV. This Learning Collaborative presents resources to improve HIV and SRHR programming for AGYW with a focus on multisectoral interventions that are needed to address the needs of this population.
