Currently, adolescent-friendly health services, especially for those with HIV, lack effective integration with other essential services like mental health and sexual and reproductive health. As a result, many adolescents living with HIV miss out on services meeting the principles of adolescent-friendly health services: equitable, acceptable, accessible, appropriate, and effective. This publication defines key components of adolescent-friendly health services, compiles existing guidance, and explores differentiated service delivery for adolescents with HIV. It also showcases best-practice case studies from country experiences.
This brief results from a community documentation process by READY+ partners in 2017-2018, followed by a reflection on core themes in July 2019 with READY+ youth focal points from Y+. It captures young people's, parents', and healthcare workers' experiences with current SRHR services and strategies to improve accessibility for youth. 36 focus groups were held in urban areas in eSwatini, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, engaging diverse groups including adolescents aged 10-14, young LBGT individuals, sex workers aged 18-25, CATS, healthcare workers, parents, caregivers and those living with HIV. Recommendations by youth target governments, implementers, and the community aim to enhance youth-friendly SRHR service delivery.
